This is a good point Liz and it reminds me of what my wife and I did for our wedding.

One of the things that I was most interested in was not to have any posed photographs after the wedding. I know it's customary, but I felt it was too staged to process out of the church only to return later to take photos with every aunt, cousin and half-uncle that was in attendance. My goal was to have the photographer capture the moment and save the group photos for the reception.

Anyway, when we were interviewing our photographer I shared what I was going after and come to find out he had experience as a news photographer, so he was used to capturing photos as events happened. He did wedding photography full-time, but knowing what his background was and seeing if that was a fit to our goals was crucial.

In the end we were VERY pleased with the end results. There is an energy and a sense of motion with the photos that really came through. Not every shot was perfect, but we didn't care, we bought them all.

Great article, Liz. Thanks.
